Fast, simple, and free, it quickly downloads, converts, and saves audio tracks from YouTube videos as MP3s of several quality levels. It extracts audio from any YouTube video, not just songs, of course. You can save clips and play them on your audio player; and don't get us started on the funny noises! Free YouTube to MP3 Converter has what we like to see in tools of its type: a plain and simple interface, nothing fancy, all business. The main window told us to paste a YouTube URL inside it, so we did, after first browsing to YouTube and selecting a song posting. Each URL we pasted into the program appeared in the main window's list view. An interesting Paste button let us automatically queue and download items. We could edit Tags, when available, and select an Auto option. Drop-down lists let us select Format and Quality. Free YouTube to MP3 Converter supports AAC, FLAC, WAV, OGG, and other formats, with many more options available on the Preset Editor, including the ability to add new ones.
Free YouTube to MP3 made quick work of downloading, converting, and saving our tunes. You can only do so much with YouTube audio, of course, but these sounded fine -- hardly CD-quality, but good enough for MP3s (or free MP3s, at any rate). You get to hear lots of tunes, and why would you buy the CD (or the download) if you haven't heard the band?
